What are the detrimental effects of eating unhealthy processed foods?

We start off young with unsatisfactory eating habits ingesting candy loaded with sugar, salt, and caramel. We consume potato chips, freeze pops, ice cream, and while it seems to be harmless in the moment, it definitely starts unraveling as major issues later on in our lives.

Then the questions become how did I get this unwanted belly, why do I have chronic headaches, why is my chest throbbing, and lastly, why am I in the hospital?

In a serious attempt to alarm those blind consumers who crave junk food, did you know that ice cream is made with milk treated with sodium hydroxide, contains hazardous chemicals such as disodium phosphate, plastic cream, dried cream, cheap poisonous thinners, propylene (paint thinners), and polyoxyethylenes?

In addition, ice cream has loads of sugar which is a direct linkage to diabetes and many more illnesses.

There are many more disturbing evidences of the ordinary "junk food" consumables we encounter unknowingly.

There can be many challenges and obstacles when trying to maintain a healthy weight, when trying to exercise consistently to build endurance and strength, or even when trying to find healthy, nutritious meals excluding nasty meat products that cause the body to produce unnecessary mucus for digestion.

With so many quick, unhealthy food sources that surround us providing meals that are appealing but of no nutritional value, it may not be as easy clinging to a organic diet right away. In order to better support the healthy functioning of the body, we must educate ourselves on which foods carry the most vitamins and minerals that are most essential.

We must have an overview of the basic physiological actions and responses of the body to what it ingests, how to properly maintain such a complex machine through exercise and proper diet, and discipline adhering to the best organic alternatives for nourishment.

Just from reading books and finding articles about the importance of eating healthy contributes to my life-long commitment of straying away from processed foods and seeking out new vegan/vegetarian meals that satisfy hunger and could possibly help with muscle building and bone strength.

Being truly honest, the results of making the change to only eat what is best for my body is worth the effort especially with a clean, more efficient system with organs and cells performing at optimal levels.

In accordance to the differents foods that are ingested on a consistent basis, it is also beneficial to know which areas of the body are mostly affected due to either an overage or shortage of nutrients.

For example, Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants in the body and directly supports arterial strength and elasticity. If the body is deprived of this single micronutrient, it could lead to cardiovascular diseases due to the weakening of arterial walls and leakage of blood into surrounding cells of the brain or heart.

Vitamin C, along with beta-carotene, helps the body's immune system and its ability to fight off certain infections and diseases. Simple actions such as eating a carrot (contains beta-carotene and essential vitamins) daily could drastically eliminate the risk of heart attack and stroke up to 70 percent.

Knowing there are many holistic alternatives to assist managing those countless impurities that simultaneously threaten the body's natural state, makes it easier switching to a healthier intake of food and lifestyle. It really is amazing how well the human body responds to foreign bodies, free radicals, and many other harmful substances that directly affect the body's normal levels of functioning.

To fully examine the nature of the body would mean closely monitoring the behavior of our cells as to what contributes to their growth or destruction. Every cell has a function and are all interconnected to form tissues, organs, organ systems, etc. Therefore, it is critical to know how drastic the overconsumption of chemicals from food can be on our cells, how these changes affect the metabolic processes of organs, and the underlying causes of the various diseases due to chemical ingestion.

The phrase "you are what you eat" is very real and can be a true matter of living a longer life or dying early due to the build up of foreign material circulating throughout the body's interrelated systems. Today, many individuals are still unaware of the dangers of junk food and how mutatious these substances are to the natural body.

A junk food diet hosts up to 30 grams of salt, which is six times more than what the body can normally process in 24 hours. After ingesting more than five grams, the salt then enters the nerves, brain, muscles, bones, cells, glands, blood, and organs causing issues to arise later on. Here are some of the many illnesses and diseases caused by salt alone: addiction, heart disease, high blood pressure, hair loss, arteriosclerosis, skin rashes, obesity, tooth decay, and insomnia to name a few. While eating meat every once in a while may seem sufficient, a number of reasons to abstain from eating meat altogether is strictly due to the production of the meat industry. While many meat farms concentrate on animal yields, the chemicals used to increase size, eliminate flies from animal dung, and the alternative uses for animal feed contribute to the destruction of the human body when ingested. Many of these same chemicals remain in the animal flesh when cooked and even more dangerous with chemicals from saturated oils used in frying. In addition, numerous chemicals found in meat products such as sodium nitrate, nitrite, and ascorbate lead to many degenerative diseases. Antibiotics are fed to the animals to reduce the risk of harmful bacterias that may be encountered, but the bottom line is that eating animal flesh is dangerous as there are over 42 diseases that threaten human consumption and over 80 diseases that can be edibly transferred from dead animals (Afrika 208-217).

Did you know eating a carrot a day can reduce the risk of stroke by 70 percent?

Garlic has been around since the time of Ancient Civilizations and can still be used today in certain medicinal practices to increase the body's immune system functioning.

What are some actions we can take to reduce the risk of dis-ease in the body?

What are some daily activities that involve getting the body in better physical health?

What the body does not use of over time, it will dispose of it. Just as every organ and organ system in the body derives from designated energy centers, it would do well for us to occupy all of the energies in our bodies by staying active more frequently.

I crucially take notice of my family members such as my dad, now a senior citizen in his late 70s. He is surprisingly in decent shape because he is constantly in motion, talking with friends, and going bowling just about every weekend with a team of league bowlers.

My mother, an activist in support of organic farming, constantly supplies the garden with loads of strenuous labor including many contributable tasks like replenishing mulch and soils, loading and placing compost in areas throughout the farm, and weeding and harvesting which insures she exceeds her daily exercise regiment.

Hours and hours spent working on the farm helps to alleviate many stressors and allows some physical exertion at times. This is a way of increasing life and longevity for my intermediate family members due to staying active.

I like to think of ways to enjoy myself while getting my body back in shape. Hobbies or activities I enjoy are hiking trails, nature walks, physical sports like basketball, running, swimming, and many more. Staying active and exercising daily guarantees more life to live.

Studies show that those who are victims of cardiovascular dis-eases and other contributable factors causing major malfunctions of the body, are due to the symptoms of being overweight. What we consume in large amounts: salts, sugars, and fatty substances build up as plaque in the arteries causing dis-eases such as atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis, cardiac dystrophy, and blockages in the brain.

So, it's always a great feeling after walking around the neighborhood, biking a moderate path or trail, swimming a few laps, or anything that gets the body back to exerting energy because simple actions of the like is what keeps us alive. I enjoy having all of my toes and fingers and do not plan to have any cut off as of yet! Let's be 100 % active.

How does the mind play a role in staying healthy?

We may not notice as much when we are constantly on-to-go, but our minds play a crucial role to how we view and carry ourselves amongst others especially in the relationships we have with our family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and individuals that have significant roles in our lives. This has an absolute effect on our health and it makes sense because stress and emotional discomfort that weighs heavily on our mental can cause all sorts of disease within our bodies.

Research findings demonstrate that just participating in the action of meditation helps to slow the aging of the brain, helps to regulate neurotransmitters, and supports recovery from trauma. Having a daily routine of taking time out the day to meditate reduces anxiety, depression, and stress while increasing feelings of love, compassion, and security. Deep prayer and meditation over time help to permanently change neural pathways resulting in a more positive perception of reality.

Mind is connected to spirit just as it's connected to body. Keeping a healthy mind means to keep the body healthy also. In my own experience of understanding who I am on a deeper level, I have personally encountered the power of spiritual energy and how it moves throughout many aspects of my life. Spirituality as a definition is stated as the dimension of human experience that enables an individual to create, encounter, or discover meaning, purpose, and value in life. This means that those experiences we gain truly connecting us to our inner being, goals and passions, or through an understanding of who we are as whole reverts back to how we manage the energy of our minds.

What are some potential stressors or what specific things cause turmoil within your mental space? What are some things or activities that provide comfort or relief? In order to keep the mind clear and free from the build up of unwanted energies from the outside world, it is important to maintain the awareness of spirituality or of a higher intelligence. The more we bolster negative energies of others or crowd the mind with negative thinking patterns, the more we feel this emotional discomfort which is energy in motion. Learning to identify what makes us upset or uneasy from any outside influences other than ourselves allows the ability to pinpoint when these energies take affect.

After creating a list of positive and negative factors that are influential to my mental health, I can now easily identify and catch myself when I slip into thinking patterns which lead to unwanted actions or behavior. I can have control over my mental health just as I have control of my physical health, and will not allow anyone or anything to fully take control of my inner state. As with almost  anything that requires perfection, these concepts of being aware must be practiced.

What I choose to consume also plays a vital role in my everyday interactions with others. Consuming junk food, sugar, and foods high in fat cause many imbalances in the brain leading to mood changes, drowsiness or lethargy, and even impairment to cognition. Its imperative to always choose healthy alternatives for the mind, body, and spirit as each operational segment of power is intertwined within the other.
